Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards became an overnight sensation when, in 1988 at the Calgary's Winter Olympics, he came last in the competition but still grabbed the world's attention thanks to his positive attitude and as he embodied what many consider the true spirit of the Olympics
Eddie's story was of course recreated on the silver screen in the movie starring Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman released last year, but Edwards has previously said that the film is only "about 5%" true and the 'TRY HARD' tour will instead tell the true story in an 'audience with…' style theatre show
In TRY HARD, Eddie will talk through his life to date from self-learning ski-jumping and being shunned by the sporting establishment, to the extensive surgery to rebuild his face and body following years of wince-inducing crashes on the snow, as he set out to break world-records in stunt jumping (10 cars and six busses) and speed-skiing (but 'only' reached 106.8mph). From bankruptcy through trustees' mismanagement, to gaining a Law degree, and even how he became a most unlikely pop-star in Finland.
"Above all, what will shine through is the steely resilience of a fearless man determined to overcome huge sporting and life hurdles in an evening of anecdotes from one of Britain's most heroic sporting underdogs," a spokesmen for the tour's promoters commented.
