Yeah, this is snow with no base :) The problem this season is that snow has been arriving in big dumps rather than accumulating in smaller increments over more frequent snow falls.

Why do people always put a downer on things?

Steady snow is forecast all this coming week.

Not a downer Icey, just something that's pretty important to remember.

It's not a problem for piste-skiing; just about everywhere has enough snow for the resorts to have consolidated the piste bases to last the season now.

Much off-piste at low levels is a different matter, and a lot of slopes that are usually relatively safe will be sketchy for quite a while yet (not just unstable but also thin enough to be tripping over - and smacking heads on - rocks).

That said, the forecast for the next couple of weeks does look like regular light snow which is just what's needed to build it up. 8)

Yes, get all that adders. Just people are sad when there's no snow, then it comes and is all doom and gloom. I would guess (maybe incorrectly) that the majority in here ski mainly on piste so news of snow arriving as a big dump is great news :) :)

Looks like there is another pile coming on Tuesday and as you say sprinkling regularly after that

Anyway - is the OP coming to PDS or staying in Andorra?

My son came back from Morzine this Weekend. The conditions were below-average at the beginning of the week but as mentioned, it snowed and they were OK. He had to catch the lift to/from the village but this wasn't a big deal. He's an experienced and young snowboarder so his expectations are above-average and he skies blacks and off-piste, not just the mainstream runs. The last two years in the Alps have been excellent (although annoying, if you were out when it was snowing hard) and this year is, let's say 'average' by all accounts. Ignore ill-informed press hysteria: my son enjoyed his trip a lot, even if the snow wasn't exceptional, and off-piste wasn't very attractive. Of course, if you're an off-piste adrenalin-junkie, then this year looks like it may be below par. If you ski on piste then you'll probably be satisfied, if not ecstatic.

We decided to go to Morzine in the end, we had approximately 40 cm on the Saturday we arrived, and more snow a few days later. The conditions were pretty good for most of the week, although I don't really go off piste. Towards the end of the week the lower pistes became quite icy, with grass starting to show, although the higher pistes were OK.

Well worth the trip.

Thanks for all the advice.
