Hi
Late reply but you can do Switzerland on a budget if you don't go on peak weeks, you could look at Les Collons or Veysonnaz they are on the large 4 Vallées ski area connected to Verbier, so you are skiing the same snow provided you buy the 4 Vallées pass not the Printz pass (which is still a good option). If you would like to know more I live here so could help you out.
Food costs here in Les Collons Pizza at La Luge is 16chf, wine 3.50chf not too expensive.
Should I go to Switzerland?

Hi Calvahead,
We are booked to stay at the Scout Centre who will also provide food so accommodation and meals are sorted. Our skiing is at Kandersteg, Lauchernalp and Adelboden. I am just looking for a lively pub where we can spend a couple of evenings. If you know of one in Kandersteg that would be great.

We did the Youth Hostel in StMoritz, bus stops right outside, very nice, you can have bunk rooms or twins etc, half board as well and the price of beer is pretty good too

Thing about Switzerland is that its very expensive, so maybe try Flaine its just on the French side of the Alps

Been to a few of the Swiss places over the years, I've skied in Grindelwald, boarded in Saas Fee, Davos twice, St.Moritz, Zermatt (my fav), Films Laax and Verbier yes they are slightly expensive but bargains can be found if you can hold out to the last minute.
I went to Verbier in 2010 for the Xmas week in Les Quatre Saisons catered chalet with flights £500, lift pass £250 and £200 drink & lunch money.

To update - we've been and had some wonderful skiing. We had a lively (if weird) pub at the Crystal and a good friendly pub at Les Alpes. Not over busy but enough for us - we were there primarily to ski and it was good enough for chilling at night. Now off to Flaine for Easter!
