I am in Meribel now and they shut all the lifts this morning, supposedly because the electricity supply had been interrupted by the wind. They then opened a couple of small lifts, and they were due to open another one but we gave up waiting and and are now back at the apartment having an early lunch.

We have had a tremendous amount of snow and the avalanche guns have been going off this morning. The road was pretty snowy this morning but the free bus is going okay.

I am very glad we are not in Val Thorens or somewhere like that.

They are really crafty these lift companys open a couple of drags so you can't claim a refund

Ian I didn't think of that. That is very crafty isn't it, there should be a rule that it has to be a certain % and a mixture of all lifts open not just drag lifts that run around the resort.... Luckily I've never been in resort when it's had to all shut down.

Ali maybe a day in the pub could be on the cards then eh?

Or maybe they're just doing their best to get people onto safe slopes as they recover from the storm?

Every lift will have to be checked for wind damage, and quite possibly have lumps of ice chiselled off them... and they'll have to survey every piste exposed to the huge wind-blown accumulations of snow from yesterday.

The bars and cafes will be doing well today but the resort staff and the pisteurs will be generally having a bad (and dangerous) day!

We choose a sport dictated by the weather and sometimes we just have to roll with it. 8)
