Heads up for Val d'Isere from Henry of Henry's Avalanche Talks.

This from his own site tonight...

Avalanche Rating of 5 out of 5 for all of Savoie, Massif Mt Blanc in Haute Savoie & Bellddone in Isère

Avalanches coming down on to the roads in and around villages at altitude like Val d'Isère where I am at 1850 m. All the roads are closed (or closing) in the village and access is already closed from Bourg Saint Maurice to Tignes and Val d'Isère. Restaurant owners are being asked to send there customers home, bars are obliged to close by 21.00 and nighclubs are forbidden to open!

Winds were recorded at up to 125 km/h at 2800 m at the FlowCapt Weather Station at La Davie above the dam in Tignes at 20.00.

Hold on to your hats - it's supposed to continue until morning! More updates as things evolve.

Henry

I posted this elsewhere on the forum, but will ask again here.

A few weeks ago we had much more snow that this in a short period of time. It fell on to little base and was accompanied by very high winds. Worse conditions than current I believe? However, why are there more avalanches being reported at this time? Surely the last conditions were worse?

Last time there were black flag conditions but no avalanches on roads etc (see post re Val T ava)?

Be prepared to end up in munich

Due into Innsbruck Sunday morning. This could be the longest transfer yet! If the roads to the Arlberg area are stacked
I just love the gravitational pull

I have the faith, still flying at the mo. Just watching the Biathlon from Oberhof and the crowd turning into snowmen as you watch.

Just checked out the Innsbruck site and found that all planes coming in from UK are being diverted while flights from the rest of Europe are landing - wrong kind of pilot?
