Not somewhere I have really considered much before, and all I know about it is whats written in WTSS ie that its got 160km of skiing and linked over to La Thuile on the lift pass.

Anyone been here, know much about it, or can shed anything on the place for me? I have an option to go mid march.

Not a bad place ..the skiing was ...OK...but not great..spent most of my time there over at La Thuille..which I did like and makes the area a tenable place to go...the only problem is the link can get closed in windy conditions..(not while I was there) and its a long drag (literally) across...

La Rosiere is in the sun, so it can get slushy, but La Thuile holds the snow better and is the better area for the more advanced skier/boarder.

And as Daved says, they shut the link when it's windy and it's an incredibly long way around by road in the winter between La Rosiere and La Thuile because the pass is closed. Friends of mine nearly got stuck in La Thuile (twice!). I should think it would be a bed and a breakfast job if you got stuck

We had a long weekend there a few seasons back.

Quite like it as a village/town, and there's a friendly vibe to the place. Great for families, or for chilling in the sun looking at the views (which are fantastic) but I think you might find the skiing a bit limited TBH Tony. Unless you do the "long drag" there's no real sense of travelling from one place to another (compared to somewhere like Serre Chevalier).

There is some fun "between the pistes" stuff when conditions are good, but much of the skiing is South-facing and exposed (to sun and wind). That said, it does have a good snow record and - being so high - will get whatever's going.

Per Daved's note, you'd probably prefer the La Thuile side for the skiing.

...oh, and if any of your party get queasy on mountain hairpins... this is NOT the resort you're looking for.

Thanks, pretty much what I had made out from what I had read. I like the sound of La Thuile but the far better choice of places to stay is on the French side with some very good chalets. I think we'd head over to La Thuile pretty much most days and mid March I;d expect a bit of sun, snow and maybe a day of wind before the snow hits. Slightly concerned about the limited extent on the French side though. Not at all bothered about taking a long drag lift.

Might not seem as extensive as ADH or Serre Che both of which are options as well and which I really enjoyed.

Hmmmm, decisions.

We ran a trip there a few years ago, I didn't go but those that did came back with positive reports.
The geography means it gets more than it's fair share of bad weather.
