Passo Tonale had the Roman emperor's thumbs down from the cogniscenti...so here goes with another couple of possibilities for a March 8/9 trip.

Livigno and Bormio - any thoughts, tips, preferences etc much appreciated (apart from 'go to La Thuile, Cervinia or Pila' suggestions!!!) -)

Has to be Bormio, Livigno had maybe worst transfer in word for very average skiing and town. I would prefer Passo Tonale see other poste) and would never return there.

I'm looking at flying into Innsbruck, which is a much shorter transfer than from the Italian airports.

Your absolutely right lota, a beautiful drive up to the munt la schera tunnel, depending on weather conditions allow 2.5 hrs for the trip from Innsbruck ….. base yourself in Livigno and pop over to bormio by the free bus when you want. Also included on the livigno lift pass is a day in St Moritz. Best restaurant Bella Vista and Bar St agata is always a locals favorite in Saroch which is where I always base my self.

Did a day in Courmayeur; didn't really float my particular boat, I'm afraid.

I spent a season in Bormio in 2010-11 and absolutely loved it so I am biased but have spent a lot of time in livigno, including a holiday 2 years ago at easter.

Either are excellent, it depends what you are looking for - if you want nightlife go to livigno, cheap and cheerful drink with brilliant apres. Bormio has started a similar apres scene but nothing like Livigno. Bormio is smaller with less pistes but many more options off piste. Bormio is closer to Milan (but you say you're coming over from the other direction)

Regardless of which you choose make sure you visit "La Pozza" - it is the outlet pipe fromt he natural Roman Baths (Bagni Nuovi and Bagni Vecchi) and is brilliant after a days skiing

Thank you; that's helpful. Encouraged by today's webcams and the snow falling.
