Any updates on current snow conditions? Didn't it snow now this past weekend 15/16? And how much?
Will be in Grindelwald from 16th Dec onward and holding thumbs for a good dump before then.

Hi

Does anyone know:

A. Do they still hold the Ski rope race at Murren on New Year's day?
B. Can anyone enter, and if so, how can someone enter?

I have never been skiing in the Jungfrau region before and just booked a week after Xmas. Staying in Interlaken. Really looking forward to it.

Richard

I think it still takes place

Get in touch with the Kandahar Ski Club or PM Chris Brookes

Pistenbully tracking the pistes on the Allmendhubel above Mürren ready for the start of the season. On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 November 2014 the Lauberhorn chairlift at Kleine Scheidegg will be open above Wengen(i am surprised they are doing that as the FL will be over 3000m this weekend, temps don't drop until end of next week)

You will have a great time but i would go to Mürren-Schilthorn area due to its height and if you lucky with the snow you could ski back down to Lauterbrunnen. What made you decide on staying in Interlaken??

Hotel availability and contingency for poor weather in the main. Flying to Zurich on 26th Dec for 7 nights, have a car hired for 3 teenage kids and myself. I read somewhere that it is about a 20 minute drive or the train from Interlaken up into the base of the ski area which didn't seem too bad. Some reviews said Interlaken is a good base for skiers and the town has a big bash on New Year's day which I thought teenagers would enjoy so I hope I haven't goofed? also thought that if snow is poor there are other resorts an hour/90 mins to the east which seem to have an excellent base already. If weather awful then Bern not too far away for a visit.

I was very interested in the alpine history of the area too. Lunn's etc There is a book on the subject which I would like to obtain. I would also like to find out more about the Murren rope race on New Year's day and someone has kindly told me one has to be a member of the Kandahar club (90+ years old I see) to enter so I don't know what the club joining criteria is but have applied to become a forum member to try and find out more info. if anyone can advise further then I would be very grateful.

However, fingers crossed for good weather and snow as there seems to be so much to see; Piz Gloria, the classic peaks, Lauberhorn downhill run (which can be skied by the public I understand), vintage alpine ski villages and much more no doubt.

Many thanks
