hi there,
heading to val thorens on Monday next. Just wondering if it is necessary to bring the usual ski parka or would i be better off with a few layers and a sleeveless puffer/vest.
I think I'll leave the usual warm gloves also and opt for a lighter pair.
Its our first time skiing so late in the season.
Appreciate your thoughts.

No, don't do that... 8)

Take everything, seriously. Val Thorens is high and will still get cold most nights / early morning.

The forecast is also showing a cold snap this coming weekend which will drop temperatures by 10C from where they are now (to below their seasonal averages). That should last a couple of days before Spring returns.

You'll be best layering up in the mornings and removing layers as the sun comes out - so a lightweight rucksack is going to be useful / essential.

Be prepared and you'll be fine - snow should be fantastic with fresh on a good base... good timing!

Just make sure your jacket and pants have vents. Unless you like to carry a backback around, you really don't want to shed layers. I find a shell jacket with either a down jacket (cold weather) or a light soft shell jacket (warmer weather) underneath to be the most versatile set up. They all have pit zips (so you can vent through two layers if needed), and if it's very warm the soft shell is used alone.
because I'm so inclined .....
