March 21st 2006 and 5 of us headed for Kazakhstan for two week of snowboarding and hopefully some Heleboarding, we went we know idea of what to expect but found that we had the Chimbulak powder all to ourselves with only 3 or 4 others people there, we decided that Chimbulak was a excellent base to start from with modern lifts that are well maintained, it is truly an amazing snowboarding set up with no set runs just powder fields and tree runs everywhere. We stayed at the Hotel “Vorota Tuyuk Su that is run by a company called Alpina XX1 "www.alpina.kz", these guys are a must if you visit Kazakhstan, they organise trips for all sizes from hele-boarding to back country guided trips (witch I personally would highly recommend, we camped overnight on Peck Chimbulak at 3670m with our guide "Alex" this was excellent). If you head into Almaty city for some site seeing visit the www.ecotourism.kz office they have some great ideas on what to visit. This place is going to be really big soon, the tourism industry is new and everybody is extremely friendly, so get out there before the big rush. we have some photos of our trip at http://www.euromissions.co.uk/view_image.php?album_id=40&ord=1

Intriguing pics Mick - they need some text; there must be some great stories there. Looks a wicked place to ski or board.

Thanks Dave,
As we only got back on the 4th of April so the text is still being added at the moment, we have over 2000 photos and 12 hours of film to make a video of our adventure. I noted that you don't have a review of the Chimbulak slopes on your site, maybe you could use ours ? we looked a this site along with many others before we went to Kazakhstan and there was not much information to be found so we thought it was best to let the rest of the world what a great place it was who the best guides are (Alpina XX1).

Nice one! Certainly does not look like your standard package holiday!
