Ski Chimbulak - Ski Resort and Snow Summary
Skiing in Chimbulak
Chimbulak, Kazakhstan (2220m to 3163m)
Originally developed during the Soviet era and then closed due to 'lack of interest' Chimbulak has recently re-opened with investment in new lifts giving a decidedly 'Western' feel. The eight trails include some that are regarded as the world's toughest. All of them are located on the northern slope of Chimbulak. The Chimbulak Plateau is 3km long with an average slope angle of 45 degrees. The Kazakhstan Olympic team uses Chimbulak for training. Night skiing reportedly occurs 'spontaneously' when the slopes are moonlit, aided by artificial lighting, especially on the 'Professor' hill. Facilities have reportedly been greatly improved in recent years.
