Soll v Kaprun v maria alm

Hi All

Looking for a resort in Austria for early feb.The 3 i have mentioned keep coming up quite reasonable price.Me and the other half are intermediate skiers.We have been to niedrau and mayhofen and loved both.Not botherd about mad Apres ski but do love a beer or five.Any advice on any of these resorts or any others would be great.

been to kaprun and its ok ski area with nice small town attached, getting up to the glacier requires the ski bus and you can also ski zell em see.
if i was going again thou i would go to saalbach instead as found it a better
resort overall

Done both Soll and Mayrhofen in the past 2 years with both multi family and mature groups. Both were good but Soll would get my vote for the good intermediate skier on a number of factors.
Have you considered Schladming? been there many times and it was excellent, it is not British/Irish type young Apres though which might suit your needs and its easy to get to from Salzburg.

Soll or any of the other Skiwelt resorts are nice. We've had some cracking deals in Scheffau and Itter before but these places are a little out of the way and not as lively as Soll.

You could also consider Saalbach/Hinterglemm. Check some of the deals available there. Both can be very reasonable and have very good prices in resort for all the usual stuff.
The skiing there is superb for intermediates and lots and lots of it. Excellent lift system, very few queues and plenty of nice modern heated chair lifts etc. Lots of mountian huts for good local food and excellent in resort food option. HIghly recommend you have a look see if theres something available there.

Söll is preeeetty but a bit vulnerable if the snow isn't too good, whereas Zell has the Kaprun glacier. Never skied in Maria Alm but it's a lovely village and I have heard good reports about the skiing - good for cruisers and beginners.
Schladming woudl always get my vote as you have 4 mountains to choose from and the people are great (and not too many Brits)

I am now looking at Scheffau hoping to book today second week in feb.

Hi there. I haven't been to either of these resorts.
A mate went to Kaprun and said it was bleak and limited skiing, and there are huge queues if the skiing in Zell is not up to scratch with the weather.
I've never considered Soll due to its altitude and snow record, but I know a lot of people swear by the place. I would like to ski the skiwelt at some point when its been blasted with fresh snow.
Maria Alm I looked at last season as there is a specific chalet that I liked the look of (Panorama) but the skiing there is quite fragmented and you really need to use a lot of transport if you like to get about. It is getting some good reviews though, and being a bit off the beaten track it might be worth a visit.

I love Austria, and am off back to Mayrhofen at the end of Feb, due to the vast ski area, snow record and really nice town.

If I was looking for an alternative place to try in Austria, it would be Ischgl or Solden as they've got decent amounts of skiing and great high altitude skiing.

Having been to St Anton I'd also thoroughly recommend there too.

Schladming is another place I keep meaning to try, maybe next season, as it has a good snow record and a lot of skiing to go at, and a lot of people swear by Saalbach, but I know from friends who ski there that the snow can be iffy.
