Just placed a deposit for Obergurgl in December and BA are now charging £80 return for a pair of skis. Thats £160 charge for me and the Wife. This now asks the question is it now cheaper to hire your skis at the resort? What do regulars think?
I just love the gravitational pull

Soon it's going to be cheaper to arrange delivery of your gear to the hotel with a courier, someone like DHL!

Yikes  This company are advertising in the S&R catalogue, they reckon it's £60 return, to include technical clothing. Might be worth considering?

BA will continue to alienate potential new and existing customers with that kind of unreasonable behaviour.
I'd use them every time given a choice, but not at that price for skis.

That's an enormous increase in price
I mean, they didn't use to charge anything for ski carriage.

I will continue hiring skis and boots - for around £100 each time for top class ones, as long as I book them well ahead of time, on the internet.

I flew BA a couple days ago. DIdn;t tell them about skis until check in and paid £35 on the way out. On the way back I was extra nice and got charged nothing ;)

Then again, I do have youth on my side.

Edit: I'd take my own skis every time. Renting isn't quite the same as having your own. An extra £70 for a bag which can weigh up to 23kg isn't terrible IMO.

According to their website, skis will be carried as part of general baggage allowance, but they will charge £28 (online bookings) for them being 'an extra bag'. It does not say per flight so I would presume from this that it is £28 flat fee.

It says:

"Sporting equipment should be packed where possible within your free checked and hand baggage allowance - there is no additional allowance. If your sporting equipment causes you to exceed the free baggage allowance, you will have to pay an extra bag fee. We will only accept sporting equipment if it is packed appropriately to avoid damage and meets the dimension and weight restriction."

"We will accept all skis and snowboards as the majority of skis comply with maximum dimensions.

Preparing skis and snowboards for travel:

skis and snowboards must be packed in a recognised ski or snowboard bag
ski boots should be packed in your checked baggage where possible to avoid additional cost
Note: Remember each bag that exceeds your free checked baggage allowance will incur an excess baggage fee."

Here are the extra bag charges:

Skiset mid-range ski price is 88 Euros, £80. You can try a couple of pairs of skis, and you don't have to carry them about.
