Hi All. Hopefully someone can help me out of this dilemma. We are a group of 30 something guys that normally travel to Austria for a long w/e. Some of us are from London & others from Manchester. We normally go to Austria but all of the Airlines have scrapped their service to either Salzburg or Innsbruck. Therefore we have decided to go to France, again we can only fly to Geneva. Can anyone recommend a good resort, we currently have either Morzine, Chamonix, Les Gets or Meribel (Which is a bit of a hike). We are looking for a lively town with a enough skiing for 4 days. Cheers in advance

Thanks all. Just on Chamonix, only concerns were there seemed to be a lot of reports about getting on a bus several times a day. All new to me, does this mean the links between certain runs are a bit disjointed? Another point is we are going in Mid March, hence i was looking at Chamonix as it looks to be snow sure.

chamonix is very disjointed apparently (better waiting for a reply from someone who has been!) but it is hgiher and def more snow-sure than morzine-its quite low but avoriaz should be fine that time of year-mind you, you need a bus to get there!
if you knew the snow was to be good id prob still go to morzine!

Hi there, know this area pretty well, so here's my opinion on various aspects of a skiing holiday - for what it's worth! I've ranked the resorts - purely my experience and opinion - others may disagree.
A. Tough skiing - 1. Chamonix, every time 2. Avoriaz 3. Les Gets/Morzine
B. Nice village with plenty of bars all within walking distance - 1. Les Gets 2. Chamonix 3. Morzine 4 Avoriaz
C. Range of skiing for lots of abilities, reasonable price lift pass - 1. Les Gets/Morzine 2. Avoriaz 3. Chamonix
D. Wide range of bars, busy town night life 1. Chamonix 2. Morzine 3. Les Gets 4. Avoriaz
E. Snow sure in March 1. Avoriaz (by a mile) 2. Chamonix 3. Les Gets 4. Morzine
F. Ski convenience 1. Avoriaz 2. Les Gets 3. Morzine 4. Chamonix
G. Near to Geneva 1. Chamonix/Les Gets (hour) 2. Morzine (1 hour 10) 3. Avoriaz (Hour and a half)
However, there are also places such as La Clusaz, Flaine, Morillon, Samoens, St Gervais, which might also fit the bill. If there's 30 of you, wherever you are will be pretty lively, just because you are there, I would suggest!
The thing about Chamonix is that the skiing is spread over four or five areas, only two of which are linked (Brevant and La Flegere) and accessible from the town. The other areas on the lift pass - Les Houches, La Tour and (best of all) Argentiere are all a bus ride away. The areas are all worth a day's skiing, so you'd jump on a bus in the morning, stay there all day, then pootle back again in the evening. Les Gets, Morzine and Avoriaz can all be done without a bus, pretty much.
Hope that helps! I'm sure some more advice will be along in a minute or so!

Thanks Mark, thought my post would be a bit confusing, actually there are 6 of us, all between 30 & 40 years old. Bad enough sorting this every year for 6 people let alone 30 :). I will have a look at the others tomorrow, thx for your help.
