I am taking a group to Alpes d'huez on 30th January. Staying in Chalet Muriellle. I have been into the web pages recently and am beginning to wonder whether I have chosen the best resort from the postings I have seen. Can someone, who has been or is a regular skier there please give me an unbiased view of the resortand the skiing. My group are intermediate skiers. Thank you

In a word, it's perfect for your group. You'll have a great holiday, it has loads of varied skiing for intermediates. We had a mixed group there this week and all had a great time.

Ann - you have chosen an excellent resort ) We have been there four times and would still go back. It really has something for everyone - my only criticism would be lack of treeline skiing.
For the last two years, we have been there for the last week of January and had superb snow conditions and blue skies/sunshine. My favourite area is Auris en Oisans which is the other side of the Alpauris 'scare chair'.
Have a great time.

Hi Ann,

The resort is amazing. I have spend 8 season going to ADH and the snow conditions are perfect right now.

The resort is perfect for a mixed group of all standards as the resorts is an open bowl and traditional in the sense that the higher you go the steeper the slopes become. So don't go up the Pic Blanc cable in less you have your incontinence pants on. IT'S STEEP.

Definitely ski over to Vaujany. Beautiful area, great runs and perfect for intermediates. Ski right down to the village of Vaujany. From the top of the DMC bubble (2700m) it about 1 hour all the way down to the village at a steady rate (and maybe after a vin chaud half way down).

Be careful skiing to OZ as it can get icy first thing, especially if the sun was out the day before and it gets icy as soon as the sun goes down on that area at about 3pm. Try it out a 12noon for the best empty slopes.

Don't be afraid of trying the Sarenne run, even though it is a 16 km black as you can join it from the Marmotte lift station from Les Bergers and miss out the black bit. It's black for the first 2 km, then red and gradually turns into green track for the last 4 km. You can do this if you are reasonably confident intermediate.

In the evening times, the resort again has a great mix for all types, from some excellent restaurants and cool bars. Try the Underground, for a typical seasonnaires bar, Lounge 21 for a more stylish atmosphere and Pacific bar if you want a good drink and the sports on the tv.

I know you have chosen one of the best resorts in the Alpes for your standard, so be happy and have a great time. Post your comments on the area when you get back as I'd love to hear I helped.

Enjoy....
