So I have done nothing all weekend apart from watch Le Tour, tidy the appartment, eat, tend to my plants and decide on this place for my work christmas party avoidance snowboarding week! Anyone got any experience?

Looked into it a couple of years ago, looks fantastic but too pricey for me. Unless there are cheaper hotels but the ones we looked at would have been about double what we would normally spend.

Which ones did you look at out of interest? The hotel is one of main reasons for my choice, it's pricey but being eying it up for a season or two and decided to do it this year as I am due a small windfall (nothing extravagant, bit enough for a nice weeks holiday) in December.

Was looking at one called the Alpine Palace. But although it was a bit pricey it looks fab, but then again we could save money as we would be able to fly from Bournemouth or Southampton instead of driving up to Gatwick and paying for carpark for a week. http://www.hotel-alpine-palace.com/en/alpine-palace/the-luxury-hotel-in-saalbach/impressions/

Sounds tasty, will look it up before I commit. I was looking at the Hotel Therrisia or some such, spa and the like, very modern.

You still gonna do the Bad Hotel Kirchler at the tux?

Well we were going to but as I have a new job to start we had to move our plans forward a bit so have booked a villa holiday in Kefalonia instead. So we wont have done too bad in the space of a year we will have done Lapland, then villa in Lefkas, then villa in Kefalonia then one week in Ruka followed by another in Yllas. So cant complain.

I have stayed at the Blumenhotel, (It's called something else, the BH is a secondary name.) It's in Hinterglemm. Very pleasant. Our deal was all inclusive, beer and local plonk, until 10.30 pm.

I'm huh-harring between Saalbach-H, and Grindlewald for our January trip.

Would love to do somewhere at New Year, but last years NY costs were high, I guess that is the same everywhere.

NY week is a week to avoid if you are a skier or boarder in my opinion. Ridiculous prices, and over populad slopes and lifts. Not for me, thanks.

I've often looked at Saalbach as a destination, but a mate goes there every year with the RAF and they often struggle for snow lower down. However, he does say he loves the cruisy runs, and Ellistine also swearsby the place, especially over the Leogang side where the snow is usually better.
I understand it has a lively apres scene, touching on the rowdy side in places!
