Hello,
first of all I am a returning ex-skier, have not seen snow since 1997 and really hung up the gear in about 1994-5. I have not even looked at gear until this year.
Confused by the carve ski's and the lengths. Not sure what to get as I think I will arrange to get some ski's again and start to ski with my kids as of this year.
I am 195cm tall and 100kg. Was a very agressive skier before, weighed a bit and always had very good equipment.
I live in Australia full time, so not very nice snow really, very wet.
I did grow up in Sovenija and raced as a junior around the area and went to the USA in the late 1980's and early 1990's to go with the Winter Sports Club in Steamboat CO as there was not much money where I was really.
So I was ok on the snow and used to very long flat stiff skis.
Any help would be great, so far I have in my head to get some decent GS race ski's, not pro race but am or club race gear as I still have heavy weight to put on them.
Should I just go with the longest I can find, pref from the Elan range?
thanks in advance.

As you have a good skiing standard, I would suggest that you do some ski testing before you part with any money.
If you like stiffer skis, then Volkl's may suit. For a recreational GS ski, look at Stockli's range.
If you are skiing with small children, then a GS style ski may not be the best choice, as it will have a significant turn radius, perhaps choose a ski with a bigger sidecut, which will be more nimble at lower speeds. Why the preference for Elan's, do you get a deal?
Let us know what you choose :D
