thanks everyone for the obertauern posts but still can't decide just want somewhere to go in january nice blues but more reds with afew blacks for my more experienced friend not a raging nightlife(past it) but nice apres ski atmosphere, no massive queues at the lifts, close to lifts, and not too long a transfer. hope thats not too much to ask and will be grateful for any replies. thank you.oh and somewhere where a 16 year old 13 and 8 year old will enjoy

Thats possibly the worst endorsement I have ever seen for a place.

Saalbach Hinterglemm would certainly fit the bill.
Depends when in January .. we were there in week 5 this year and didn't have to wait more than 3 or 4 minutes for any lift/gondola.
Suits intermediates best .. with some nice wide cruisy pistes and some more challenging reds.
Nursery slopes in Hinterglemm are floodlit in the evening until 9 or 10 ... so plenty for kids to do after dinner.
Apres-ski is what you make of it ... can be quiet or more noisy depending on which bar you go to.

Hello Claret, having worked in both Sauze and Saalbach I can recommend both. Austria tops it for what I call true alpine Apres ski, still in your ski boots drinking mulled wine in the open air bar at the bottom of the slope way past dinner time. Its been some time since I was in Saalbach so couldnt comment on queues. Sauze however has a special place in my heart. The old town offers up some real gems when it comes to restaurants and bars. If you hit a lift queue ask for your money back, they just dont happen!! For more info on sauze take a look at my site www.sauzeonline.com It to has a forum so lots of useful info on the place.

All the best.
