Northern Lights.........

Were they as spectacular as they are claimed to be, I so desperately wanted to see them.
I know you need to avoid light pollution, so I never expected to see them on the slopes and fells, 100's of lights on all the time, which gave off weird pink lights in the sky. But did expect where we stayed by frozen lakes with no lights, and it was cold and clear. May-be next time

It was kind of wierd, shimmering glows of different colours in the sky. I dont believe I got the full effect but my mate who lives up there said they do see them quite often.
The local football fanzine is known as The Northern Light.
I am told they are spectacular at the right time of year near where you went, when conditions are right, although dont ask me what that would take!

Going up the Niederau two man chairlift, (as it was then), in the 70's. As we set off, the whole of the sky ahead turned green, and throughout our ride, we were treated to a multi-coloured sensational light show. As we got off the top, the sky cleared.
Also watched them in my back garden, 5/6 years ago, with all the family. Took heaps of photos, but nothing that picked up the beauty of the display.
