Never been, apparently due to the mountainous terrain it's a pretty hairy approach.
Anyone here ever been, know a (preferably cheap) way from here to Mayrhofen or could recommend a place to hire a minibus?
Looked at the OEBB option (first class to Mayrhofen's apparently only 18 Euro's, but means farting on with waiting around in Jenbach and the flight back is around 11am on a sunday so not that feasible for getting back) Help, as always would be greatly appreciated.

In the past that's been why not so many airlines go there, pilots require special rating and/or additional training. There's a handful of other airports around the Alps with the same requirements.
I think so, from a non-pilot point of view you can see why, it's the same approach more or less.

Innsbruck is a really nice well organised airport. The approach is not hairy at all, although they do fly 20 miles or so down the valley, so if you look out both sides all you can see is mountains and snow. If its windy its not nice, but then no approach is in those conditions. It does however suffer badly with fog, and you are likely to get diverted to Munich in that scenario.
They have built a new arrival section with passport control much more organised than it used to be. Skis however are always lined up outside near the bus park, so if you not on your own, send someone out to keep an eye on skis, as its often a bit of a free for all.
As for getting to Mayrhofen, you need to take the train to Jenbach, and then the train or postbus up to Mayrhofen. They are now running more trains and bigger ones too, as the old one looked like it was made of lego.
I believe there is an early one out of Mayrhofen at around 6.30am which might get you there in time. It might be worth speaking to some of the tour ops to see if they have space on their buses going to Innsbruck airport, although you will be limited to Saturdays or Sundays.
I dont know much about buses from Innsbruck although I know some resorts have transfer buses from the airport.

Isn't Sion supposed to require special training as well?
