Hi everyone. I am fairly determined to take family to Niederau, but due to work mix-up we can't go until first week in March
Problem is that I'm really nervous about the snow at that time. We're still beginners and will need to be on the nursery slopes, at least for a few days, and I'm unsure if snow is reliable that low down.
Accepting that no one has a crystal ball to see the future (please tell me this week's lottery numbers  ) what are your opinions on snow in Niederau for the first week in March. We could book a decent offer now at the Harfenwirt with Inghams - or should I look for somewhere higher up with a more reliable snow record?

Wait... 8)
First week in March is a quiet time and there will be availability just about everywhere, so you should be able to get a good price nearer the time - and you can wait and see what the snow does.

Thanks Admin. I've been avidly checking snow reports and long-range forecasts. Last year we went to Filzmoos in mid-March and the day we arrived it was raining and the hills were decidedly green, but after a day or so we had a really heavy snowfall, which made all the difference.

You can get deals to Niederau over the next week or 2 for £149pp on square deals through the tour ops, including flights, transfers and accommodation. I'd leave it until late to book for the best prices.
As for the snow, who can tell? Yes, its a low resort, and yes it does suffer from time to time with a lack of snow, but you pays your money and you takes your choice.

Hi Allie,
The Harfenwirt is a popular hotel. Even in the normally quieter month of January, it has been full every week, when other hotels haven't. So, while I agree that you should have a good chance of a good deal nearer the time with a number of hotels, the evidence of January is that the Harf will be full for most of the season.
Very last minute Harfenwirt bookings may end up in one of a number of Harfenwirt guest accomodations, all nearby, when you eat at the hotel. Most guests seem to be quite happy with this.
I normally go for the last two weeks in both January and March. Most years, I regretfully leave the village at the end of the season, with a completely white mountain.
And in most years, we have a fine view of green slopes on the Hohe Salve on the Skiwelt.
This year, I am considering the first two weeks in March. Chances of slightly colder snow, but still good warmth and light for painting.

Thanks for the advice Dave. I'm a bit paranoid about snow conditions because we're still beginners and fall over a lot. There's nothing like doing a face-plant on a sheet of ice
Last night I dreamed that we went to Austria and everywhere was green with not a snowflake in sight. I guess it's on my mind a lot, lol!

We've been in Niederau for the first week in March for the past two years and the snow has been fine! Okay, you have to go to the top of the mountain to get it, but the views up there are fab! If Niederau itself is not as good as you would like, most folks head over to Auffach on the free bus. Lots more snow over there. Looking at the webcams I don't think you have much to worry about.
The first year we went there was plenty snow on the mountain and, as an added bonus, it was so sunny in the village we could sunbathe in the afternoon - 70 degree heat!
You'll have a great time - enjoy.
PS - We're going back on the 7th March so leave some snow for us!
