Try pushing your shins into the front of the boots more and stand taller and more forward. You'll then be more stacked up over your feet rather than behind them which should help.

Drink more water, stop more regularly, take some Mars bars up with you.
My quads were tight first couple of days but eased off, and late in the day one of the quads in my right leg tightens and tells me I have dont enough for the day. Its your bodies way of telling you to chill out.
