Our youngest will be 2yrs & 5months at New Year when we go to Kaprun. My husband thinks she's old enough to try it out. She is a feisty little thing with an older brother who ski so I think she'd be up for it.

What ages did you start your children from?

:)

I haven't got any kids so can't speak from specific experience but from what I know most ski schools will only take kids aged 3 upwards....

Daisy, my youngest will be about the same age when we go in April and we'll give him a go. There's no reason why they can't try it at that age but you do, of course, have to be very attentive to their needs and a lot will depend on how strong and patient the child is!

Small people get colder quicker, bored and tired more easily (sure you know this all already) so you need to stay one step ahead - get them inside for a hot chocolate or a snack before they get cold, stop and go sledging before they get bored and stay in warm'n'cosy if the weather's bad... 8)

If they don't enjoy it you may have to wait years before they step onto skis again...

3 years and 9 months in our case.

There's a big difference though between and potter on skis and putting them into ski school.

It's less a case of specific age and more a case of the strength and development of the child. What you don't want to do is put them off as it'll ruin your holiday this year and for a few years to come!

Started both of mine at about 3 and a half - I simply don't think they would have been up to it any younger than that. Even then, they accomplished little more than staying upright on a very gentle glide. However, they loved getting a little bit of speed up skiing between my legs on the run home after ski school (just be careful that their skis do not twist).

I would have concerns about trying your little one at 2 and a half unless you take it really gently - they have so little strength in their legs at that stage and you run the risk that they will be turned off.
