The problem with Brides-les-bain is the half hour Gondola ride from the town up to the main ski area. And the half an hour down again.

I think the ride down is worse than the ride up, its in the shade and a horrible way to finish a days skiing.
Also there isnt much to do in Brides of a night time.

Chamonix is fairly much in the shade earlier in the season [the price you pay for the spectacular peaks towering above you :) ] but of the 2 I would choose Chamonix every time. You might be better off at the top of the valley in Argentiere or Le Tour.

This seems a very restricted choice. Is there a reason?

If you start of with your criteria, you might get more positive pointers.

Dave makes a very good point , Bellfi.

You have chosen 2 extremes in terms of resorts and neither would be at the top of my list as child friendly. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you would have a good holiday in either but if you start with what you want out of a resort, as Dave says there may be other choices.

The reason for the very different choices was down to the offers, took the deal to chamonix £563 for family of 4 - can not believe the price (no flight supplement from Glasgow or under occupancy supplement) with crystal, checked it out today is now £1450, have never been to france skiing do not fancy it, but at that price had to give it a go - Usually go to Italy or Switzerland.

At that price it would have gone straight to the top of my list too :)

Ok , can see your price logic, and can distictly recall being in a similar position.

So, did you book Chamonix at £563, or not?

What was the Brides offer?
