I'd have taken the train personally, I was round there a couple of weeks ago (http://snowslider.net/2008/09/30/kandersteg-adelboden/) although you do need to get the bus at Frutigen as the train doesn't run into Adelboden, a taxi would be fine as well from the station.
Are you sure that was 800 pounds and not francs? I'll do it for 750 quid )
only Basel and Bern isn't it? then bus or taxi from Frutigen. It Switzerland you know, the train will be there each time :-)

Have booked four nights skiing in Adelboden in March, does anybody have any experience of the place they could share ?

Was that an independant booking or did you pick up an offer ? I'm looking for a short break or two in March.

It's nearby to us actually, Adelboden and Lenk are quite popular locally. Generally better skiing than the nearby Grindelwald/Wengen etc and less busy in terms of holiday makers although more local skiers at the weekend. Some spectacular scenery and the skyline is dominated by the Wildhorn and Wildstrubel peaks of the western Oberland. Also host of the FIS race in January which is a big Swiss event, possibly more so than the Lauberhorn in fact.
Good skiing, pretty snow sure, it'll be one of the early opening stations and close latest. Lots of intermediate terrain and some pretty good off-piste.
OTOH, the local dialect and accent is impenetrable and I don't get a word of it :)

Thanks Guy's, I have always fancied Adelboden and until now never really got round to organizing a trip.
i normally keep away from the big tour companies and organise my hols independently, flight to Basel, hire car, I did look at taxi transfer but they wanted £800 return trip, and hotel, I just can't wait.

Your one hell of a lucky guy living in that part of Switzerland, I looked at property in Anzere a few years ago,
so made quite a few trips to Valais , certainly a very beautiful part of the world.
May be one day I'll stop buying gadgets and buy a property in Valais instead.
I have not booked a hire car yet so maybe I'll check out the train.
