I was wondering if anyone out there owns or is aware of a watch designed for the skier? Either high end or slightly more digital.

There are endless diver, pilot, military, driver, etc watch but don't see many skiing timepieces about.

I have been wondering this as well.

GPS postioning watch with altimeter I guess would be perfect, so you can see height, distance and speeds.

I would also like something that does not look like a plastic lunchbox strapped to my arm.

I am sure I saw something in Filzmoos last year in stainless steel for about 300 EUR, but didn't have the cash so tried to ignore it, but further searches have revealed very little....

....too much to ask maybe???

Tino thank you for that. But if anyone has something less digital...

What would a non-digital ski watch be like? I can't quite understand the concept.

Personally I wear either a Certina DS Pro, light robust, simple, waterproof and shockproof or for more mountaineering days a Suunto Core which is an altimeter/barometer/compass I find it a bit bulky for my taste aesthetically but functionally very good indeed.

How bulky are they Ise?

It's something I would like, just a gadget kind of person I suppose. I think I know what Hirsty is on about, and I am sure I have seen one. That would be a watch with an analogue dial for timekeeping but with digital function in the background for the more complex altimeter, GPS etc. Mind, I am guessing that would be extremely bulky!!

You don't actually need a GPS to ski with though ) The pods are trackers only as well so if you want to navigate you need something like the Suunto X10 or X9 but I don't think I know anyone that actually uses them, this is the X10 :

My Core is around 48mm in diameter and around 10mm thick, it's the diameter that makes it bulky but it's displaying a lot of information I want to see at a glance without fiddling around. it's this one :

I like it a lot and it's light to wear but I don't wear it unless I need it or I'm on a trip. Many mountain pro's use cores or the more popular older (but still great and available) vector so it's part of that uniform if you're trying to send that message with what you're wearing in the bar :D Casio do something but again I don't know anyone that uses them although I'm sure they're just fine.

Bear in mind that any barometric altimeter (as these are) will need constant re-calibration to keep accuracy though.
