Looking at spending more time skiing this year and possibly looking at moving out to France and commuting home to work. I will have to commute about four times a month.

Does anybody have any tips on resorts that are close to Geneva maybe with resonable public transport and at the same time have good snow. Also any resorts that have a financially resonable and are not a complete rip off. I guess looking at traditional French resorts e.g Clusaz, instead of the UK visitor hotspots e.g Courcehval.

Any other tips or views from people that have or currently do the above lifestyle.

Somewhere close to Geneva with reasonable public transport links..hmmmm. Chamonix is a possibility, plenty of minibuses heading up and down the valley.
Portes du Soleil and Grand Massif tend to be geared to tourists, so weekend travel possibilities good.
Consider somewhere like St Gervais, which has a rail link. You will need to do plenty of study on timetables.

If you are going to stay for 3 months or less, then it could be cheaper for you to rent in the lower bits of the 4 Valleys in Switzerland, with good rail and postbus infrastructure (for example). Over 3 months, and you get into issues with permits n' stuff.

Chamonix, Avoriaz, Morzine. There are lots close enough to Geneva.

If it were me and i have dreamed about this a lot i would say Le Fayet. Its just down from St Gervais already mentioned and within a short driving distance of some of the best skiing in Europe. Chamonix, Argentier, La Tour, Combloux,Les Contamines,Megeve,Les Hoches,Brevent,Flegere, and of course the Vallee Blanche.

It has a main train station,is an hour from Geneva Airport and Snowcoach http://www.snowcoach.co.uk/page.php?id=36&pid=4&mpg=greatplacestostay have a Hotel there and run an overnight coach service thoughout the season sometimes twice a week as an option for getting home.
Accomodation should also be much cheaper as its a living working town and not just a ski resort.

Other than that somewhere like Morzine which again is about an hour from Geneva.
If you want cheap accomodation though your going to need a car.

unfortunately the train from Le Fayet doesn't connect to Geneva airport directly and it's 2.5 - 3 hrs on the train

Hi,
I looked at property in Chamonix and it's so expensive, you'll get more for your money elsewhere.....
