Hi

New Zealand - Queenstown (there is quite a few resorts dotted around)

Went last year, a lot of Ski teams train in New Zealand during our summer months.

I believe the mountains were called the remarkables. The views were fantastic and the hospitality of the New Zealanders is the best i've ever experienced.

Thanks Beccy

Heard some good reports about Queenstown but also S.America looks promising, which one would members choose between the two?

Hi Paul
Hopefully I can help. I have skied NZ, Argentina & Chile and now arrange trips to Chile & Argentina.
The season in South America starts mid-June with the resorts opening 13/14th June. By July the season is well under way.
The skiing is excellent with over 30 resorts, which if looking for larger resorts you can narrow down to a main group of 5.
That said you will be very close to New Zealand, although NZ is not as snow sure as SA. The ski teams and professionals head down to SA every year for good reason.
If your flights take you via Santiago then there is nothing to choose, however if you have to go via Asia and NZ, then that would seem the obvious place.
SA has complete ski in ski out resorts where as NZ (someone correct me if there are exceptions!) usually has accommodation off mountain.
Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Thanks Powsurfer unfortunately have looked around and I think I'ts going to be too difficult(& expensive) to get flights from Fiji to Chile so we are probably going to stay in New Z can you give any advice on where to go.

We will probably look at taking 3 weeks next year in S. America Termas de Chillan looked brilliant.

Thanks

The north island has 2 great ski resorts.
Whakapapa approx.4hrs from Auckland
Turoa approx. 4hrs from Wellington
Both resorts are on the same mountain (Mt Ruapehu). One on the northern side and the other on the southern side. Both recieve similar amounts of snow.
Both resorts have fantastic skiing.
Accommodation for Turoa can be found at the bottom of the mount in Ohakune. Drive to the ski fields is approx. 40mins.
Accommodation for Whakapapa can be found on the ski slopes. Mostly ski club huts, but they welcome non members.
