Hi...hoping to go skiing on a budget-ish with the family, either mid feb or late march.
I would appreciate some pointers on travel, shortest drive from channel ports, cheapest way to travel, accommodation, lift passes etc...
Many thanks

As Rossfrae points out you are linked to peak season, particularly this year where Easter falls early. It isn't just UK holidays, the whole of Europe adds pressure.
Suggest your process starts off by spliiting to two:
February ~ look at lower cost countries. Bulgaria has a good snow record, (check Iglu web site, snow history)and many resorts have good quality ski schools. Other aspects are not so good, but there are offsets ~ it is very nice to get a ride back to your hotel with horse and carriage for almost nothing. And, like the Italians, the instructors are are very cring with children.
March ~ If the snow holds up well across Europe, you may attain a reasonable cost holiday anyway. If it doesn't, trawl through the brochures and look at high resorts. Then cast your net accross the web. Lowest cost might be if you arrange your own travel and look for b&B, checking local eating costs. If prepared to ski just til 2.00pm, a lower resort might do, anyway.
Good hunting!

Sorry, that should be "caring with children", although they do make you cringe sometimes.....

Andorra is a pretty cheap place, tax and duty free, and very enjoyable.
i've been once as a novice skiier and absolutely loved it. Going back tomorrow, they aint had a great deal of snow yet this year though?
check out the neilson website, they have some good bargains, www.neilson.co.uk
think you may be strugglin for cheap in school hols.
We have booked flights to geneva and back early march for 54 quid each. (bmi baby) we have not yet sorted accom/ skis or lift pass but it is generally cheaper to to this in a resort rather than through a travel company. Wing it, you'll sort summits out!

Hi, Just back from Borovets Bulgaria where we stayed at the flora complex over Christmas. With First Choice it cost us £1700, for three adults and one child. We have just booked again for March (ski school said this was the best month) and the total cost for doing it ourselves has come in at £530.00. Flights were with easyjet, transfers with MotoRoad, and staying again at the Flora Complex which we thought was a great base, only 500m from slopes. Hope this helps - it;s worth looking at and food, drink and ski equipment is cheap and reasonable. regards samantha

oh p.s .... Under 7s don't need lift pass, and Hunters (spirit Holidays) are a great company for all your boots, ski's, lift passes and tuition etc, they had us all skiing like pro's (well not quite) but pretty dame good at the end of the week. we are traveling back on 29th march so for 3 adults and 1 child £530.00 is great value. regards samantha

£530 is a steal!! that's well cheap!! it shows how much money holiday companies are making! Were lessons and ski hire etc included in the £1700 price?
