There is 6 of us going and we are begin/inter skiers and looking to go to La Thuile but would like some info from someone who has been.
What is the snow like generally at the end of January?
What are the slopes like?
Reading about, it seems to be a quiet resort. We are not after a mad week but would like few pubs and a club. Went to St Wolfgang and it was very dead with only 1 lively pub!
Any info would be great :D

They are blanketed with snow right now so hopefulyl they dont get a heat wave!! Historically at the end of January they have good coverage, even last year when nowhere had much snow..

I'd say it was good for beginners and intermediates, although rather prone to being windy. No so great for snowboarders. When we went a few years ago, none of the restaurants took plastic and you always had to book a place, even if you walked-in to an empty restaurant. Very friendly locals (as you'd expect in Italy).

:D hi have not stayed in la thuile before but have skied over from la rosiere a couple of times, there are some great tree lined runs down into la thuile but and some of these are considered to be serious runs, also there is a great beginners area towards the bottom. There is also an excellent restaurant on the way down from the chaz dura chair lift(dont think the restaurant was marked on the piste map)and its a gem,in summer there is a duck pond outside but in the winter you ski right over it.once you get off the main cable car from the bottom a lot of the skiing is in a large open bowl which catches the sun,but this can be deceptive as if then you want to go over the border to la rosiere the chairlift journey over the top is bitingly cold(seriously on some days so make sure if the weather is cold and windy you can cover your neck). There is also the option of heli-skiing on the ruitor glacier(heli-skiing is illegal in france) and some great off piste.
If you are taking a car from the airport you also have the option of going to Courmayeur for the day which is about 45 minutes away from memory(on the italian motorways you must have headlights on at all times by law).
hope this is of some help and wish you all a pleasant safe trip.

Hi
I went to La Thuile pronounced La Tweel at the end of March as a last minute holiday. Although not the biggest of resorts it has everything you need. When we went there was loads of snow. There are plenty of runs and it is worthwhile to ski to Rosiere just make sure that you get the drag lift back before it shuts or else a very large taxi fare.
There are several restaurants and only about two fun pubs La Bricole and another one near to the ski rental place. It's a good one after you get off the slopes as they have loads of free nuts and crisps.
We stayed in the Planibel apartments which is what the town is based round. Easy access to the slopes and some days we had a slope to ourselfs. great
