I'm booking for a mixed group, 3 couples with young kids.
Have found two offers with LDA being the more expensive.
I have been to LDA and had a good time.
ADH looks good also but not been there. I know it's a high resort but in ski mags, says can suffer in late season from too much sunshine.
Can anyone give me a view if you have been to both and which one is the better resort?
cheers :P

We have had 4 years of good family holidays in Alpe d huez (with Crystal and First Choice). All have been a success mainly as the kids clubs and esf ski school have been superb.
I have frends who have been to LDA and not gone back as they have covered the ski area in 3 days, this is not possible in Alpe d Huez as there is so much varied skiing.
To compare, I think the snow is very similar in both resorts, so is the travelling time and apres ski etc. Overall I would say Alpe d Huez wins due to the vast ski area. But to get the most from Alpe d Huez get around the far reaches of the ski map and avoid the easy access areas as they get busy.

I know both resorts pretty well. I agree with Rob's opinions about the extent of skiing at Alpe d'Huez and the wisdom of seeking out the far reaches of the area.
It is true that immediately above AdH there are a lot of south facing slopes that suffer in the late season. However there are plenty of north facing slopes in the Vaujany, Auris and Oz en Oisans sectors that stay in good condition well into April in most seasons.
My guess is, if you enjoy Les deux Alps, you will find Alpe d'Huez an attractive alternative for a change.
