after some general advice about driving in italy and having used this forum before for my ski trips thought it a good place to start.
We are driving from Milan to Lake Como in a few weeks, not a massive drive I know, but wanted to know what anyone's expereince was of the auto grills? we are travelling with our two year old and it will be early evening so was hoping the food was good in them? I have heard that it is.
Also, has anyone been to St. Moritz in the Summer and if so any reccomendations?

Yes Autogrills are good it's been a time since I've eaten a meal there but regularly have breakfast they often do a good deal coffee, cake and freshly squeezed orange for about 3 to 4 quid. I have recently driven from uk to Italy via St Moritz I thought it was one of the best routes I've used. Milan can be very traffic heavy at certain times so best to carefully choose departure time if you can. Can't recommend anywhere in St Moritz as I only stayed for an hour. It's a nice drive but the road can be busy early morning and evening as many Italians work in Switzerland. Enjoy your trip. Andy

We did Milano to Lake Como (hotel was just north of Como town) a couple of weeks ago and it's a relatively short drive. We even took the "longer" non-toll road route which can easily be done in less than two hours. Not sure you even have to stop for food for such a short drive, even with a kid, just feed him/her just before you leave and you should be fine. This is unless your destination is well north of Como town of course. Once you hit Como and drive along the lake count on 60ish km/h as average speed. Just make sure to not go on a Friday afternoon as loads of Milano residents head north for the weekend.
