There were heavy snowfalls on some higher slopes in the Alps again over the weekend.
Glaciers in Austria and Germany reported up to 60cm (two feet) of fresh snow and the snow fell down to lower elevations too, particularly in the central and Eastern Alps.
The newly opened-for-the-season ski areas of Zugspitze in Germany (pictured above) and Arosa in Switzerland as well as the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Austria were among resorts to issue 'powder alarms' for more than 20cm of fresh snow in 24 hours. In the Kitzsteinhorn's case it was 50cm of snow.
About 50 ski areas are now open in Europe and the amount of terrain open is increasing at many. Obergurgl with 99km of runs open and Val Thorens with 25 runs open are believed to have the biggest areas open so far.
More snow was also reported at ski areas in France, Italy and Eastern Europe whilst ski centres in Scandinavia reported up to 35cm (14 inches) of fresh snow too.
Temperatures appear to remaining low with more snow forecast in the week ahead in most areas.
