Off to Sestriere soon with the boys. Anybody got snow/piste info?
Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.

A bit of snow forecast today/tomorrow then clear skies for a week but remaining cold.
As off 11th jan.
Upper/Lower = 40/30cm
Piste good - no off-piste.
Runs to resort closed.
But don't be despondent as I think this is not accurate! Sauze (next door) is showing resort runs closed but "verbal" reports of great conditions.
Low temperatures should allow/have allowed loads of artificial on the resort runs and lower down recently.

Thanks Guys. Was really looking for feedback from somebody who is actually there or has been recently. Info seems to be mixed. Crystal Ski App claims that there are only 29 out of 70 lifts open, so that does not bode well, however webcam (photos only, no live feeds)seems to indicate plenty of snow.
Have to admit, personally Italy is not my ski area of choice having tried several different areas and found the lifts to be old and slow and the pistes badly marked and maintained. Wife also hates the 'squat' toilets. However this coming trip was REALLY cheap and it's just a week with the lads, so if all else fails there is always the beer, although nowadays I can't drink as much.
Anyway, before I get bombarded with responses defending Italy as a ski area, please bear in mind, this is my personal opinion and should in no way be interpreted as a slight on Italy. Especially bearing in mind that Italy is my country of choice for summer hols.
Got Ischgl lined up for early Feb, so t least we will get some good skiing in this overall pretty poor season.

Well, back now from Sestriere. Snow was ok and more lifts opened, but there were still several closed. No snow while we were there, just brilliant sunshine all week. Had a day in Montgenevre which was really good.
A tip for anybody going though, if you like to get some sleep at night and you don't want to have to climb a tremendous hill just to get into town for some nightlife, avoid the Olympic Village for your accommodation.

I sat next to a lady yesterday on the BA Turin to LGW flight who was a the Club Med in Sestriere. She said conditions were dreadful, no snow fallen for ages, pistes icy and dangerous, it rained for a bit and made things worse. Unfortunately, this is an area that often suffers when all around are getting dumped on. I hope it picks up soon. It dumped half a metre in Cervinia overnight Saturday as I left, but it was raining down in the Aosta Valley and also all around the Sauze area according to the lady. Not looking good there I am afraid.
