Hi Ski-Fans,

I am looking for information about a new chair lift planned at Livigno...at some websites one can find that it will be available this winter 15/16. However, the official sites have no info about this lift. Someone has insider info?

Regards.

On one of the web sites there is mention of a new lift. Hope it's a replacement for the slow old two man chair that operates to the top of the mountain on the south side of the valley.

The plan was to build a 6 seater high speed chair lift from the Vallaccia to Monte della Neve in time for the coming season.

During the summer an environmentalist group took the authorities to the administrative court in Milan claiming that they shouldn't have given planning permission for it as it's located in a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and is therefore protected under the EU Habitats Directive, so construction had to be suspended. An appeal by the lift company against the suspension was due to be heard on 5th November, but has been adjourned until February because of a procedural issue, so the lift can't be completed in time for this season.

So far they've only managed to complete the foundations http://www.funivie.org/cantieri/thumbnails.php?album=385

Back from 2 weeks skiing in Livigno. As mentioned above, the new lift was all ready to be open for 15/16 season but was put on hold by "environmentalists". Livigno ski area is on two sides of the valley, one being Mottolino, the other Carosello 3000, the companies are run by different families who apparently don't get on very well. Rumour is that Carosello put some waterpipe in without consulting properly, the owners of other side found out and got the officials to check, Carosello owners then found an environmental group to complain about the proposed new lift, just before the pylons were going to be erected. So everything is on hold for now...That's the rumour what was going around the town.
