Chamonix News 2015/16

Iainm posted Oct-2015

There's been a few changes in Chamonix since last season.

MBU Lift Pass now includes Megeve/St Gervais
First up is the lift pass. The Mont-Blanc Unlimited Chamonix lift pass now includes skiing in Megève and Saint Gervais (Espace Evasion), as well as Courmayeur (Italy).

This makes it one of the biggest (the biggest?) ski regions in the Alps with over 700 km of pistes. In addition, it also entitles you to a 50% discount on a 4 Valleys day lift pass in Verbier (Switzerland), when you've bought a 6+ day MBU pass.

The MBU pass includes free admission to the new Funivia Monte Bianco in Courmayeur, the Chamonix ice rink, swimming pool, Boarder Coaster luge and museums.

New Lifts and Slopes

There is a new high-speed 4 seater detachable chairlift in Les Houches, which will replace the Cha and Chamois drag lifts. Around 1200m in length, the capacity will increase to 2000 passengers/hour and will open up a new space to skiers in the Cha/Chamois sector.

The new mini-funicular at Brevent will help give beginners easy access to the Planpraz plateau and the Téléski 2000 poma from the Planpraz gondola station.

Over in Les Grands Montets there is a new Snowsports Area, known as 'The Summit Cross'. This offers a variety of jumps, whoops and banked turns and features a 'BMW' 400m course with video and timing system. There's also an 800m route up to FIS standards for enthusiasts, ski clubs and competition.

The new Chamonix Snowpark is located on the Balme slopes. It is 1000m long and 100m wide and located next to the 'Téléski du Col' and accessed by a dedicated button lift and 4 person chairlift. There will be several runs to cover various levels of skiers and snowboarders and a 'Cool Zone' for relaxation, complete with sound-system.
