Big Snow At Big Resorts

J2SkiNews posted Mar-2015

(Val Thorens this morning picture by Jane Cross)

Some of the biggest snowfalls in the Alps for a month have been reported in the past 24 hours.

Cervinia in Italy and Val Thorens in France have each reported 50cm/20 inch snow falls since yesterday on their higher slopes. St Anton in Austria has had a foot (30cm) of fresh snow and Val d'Isere 35cm.

Snow reports are still coming in as resorts post their overnight accumulations but the snowfall is fairly widespread across the Alps.

The snowfall is expected to continue through today at most areas with a return to clear skies from tomorrow onwards, giving the potential of great Easter holiday powder conditions.

And we're expecting the biggest falls of this system to come today!

...with a fair bit more snow to come throughout this week and into April.

Just need the snow line to come down a bit (temperatures should cool over the next few days) and this is looking peachy for Easter.

So... who else is heading out for Easter??? 8) 8) 8)

Feeling pretty fed up here. I'm all for going skiing somewhere next week but eldest daughter doesn't fancy it. Something to do with revising for her A levels.

Pathetic excuse! She should follow my example and fail them first time round........

Seriously though, I'm sure a week away in the spring sunshine would do her good.

slippy slidey snow......me likey!

Ha, well I'm taking my lazy sod on the thinking that he's only going to spend a week pretending to revise anyway... ...and getting him away from home might lessen the distractions (he can take some textbooks).

I've never skied in Europe I've got my equipment. I'm driving north from Venice on Monday April 6, can someone direct me to snow within a 4 hour drive? I've considered Innsbruck or Kitzbuhel as I am driving on from there to see Neuschwanstein Castle, thus my geographic ideas. Though open to suggestions!!

Sölden or Obergurgl, lots of snow there and glacier skiing too.
