I am trying to put together a 3/4 day trip in mid December and might try Austria this time. I have only ever skied in St Anton in Austria and usually go to France or Italy as when going DIY it just seems easier.
As we are flying from Dublin we are limited to Geneva, Munich and Bergamo this time of year. The flight times to Geneva and Munich are always the best but rather than the 3 Valleys this year we fancy something a bit different and preferably not French.
Can anyone let me know where might be a good spot for a long weekend early season within about two hours drive from Munich?

Thanks.
When in doubt?....Flat out.

You can get into the Zillertal valley easily enough. From munich you use the 4 seasons transfer for about 80 euro. Stay in Mayrhofen and then if you want a day out you can go to Kaltenbach, Zell am Ziller or Hintertux.

Thanks, I will have a look but on first impressions I am not sure it would be suitable as we are flying out on December 12th so really need to stay in a high altitude resort.

I think you will ok from the 12. Prior to living here I xe out for about 5 years and snow has always been good. Also the glacier at Hintertux is open 365 days a year and only a short bus ride(free) away

Hello Gareth, You can catch a train straight to Wörgl and from there you can reach the Wildschönau only 10kms away on public transport. By car it is about 90 minutes drive. If you do not want to pay to use the motorway in Austria you must exit the motorway in Germany.

That isn't correct. You must come off the Autobahn at Kufstein-Sud, then follow the Wörgl signs. It adds only a few minutes to the journey.

You must check this, I believe that this changed last year, the police were waiting at this exit giving out fixed penalty fines to so many cars. I think the fine was 90€ but it may have been more.

I will check this, but I certainly came off at KS last season. My Niederau ladies will know!
