I'm off to Stans in Switzerland on business next week, and since it's not far from Engelberg, I was wondering whether it's worth having a pair of boots fitted while I'm there?

The family & I have had one week's ski holiday with instruction in Poina Brasov (Romainia) and completed an icy blue run (it seemed hellish steep to me, but that might be me being a fraidy-cat!). Needless to say we all loved it, and have booked a week in Kranjska Gora in Feb for this year.

The reason I'm considering having a fitting & buying is that I do seem to have trouble with the underneath of my feet cramping, even though I do toe stretches (sounds painful, but I hope you know what I mean!) before a session. It was particularily painful with the boots I hired at Xscape at Castleford a coupla months ago. The only relief was to take them off every five minutes and manipulate/massage my toes. I think I have medium to high arches?

So, with that in mind, is it worth taking the opportunity to go to a resort shop & get the benefit of a pro fitter? I'm not sure how much more expensive Switzerland will be, but I'm willing to go up to £150?

Cheers,

Mark.

Was in Engelberg pre-Christmas. Looked specifically for mens' boots, with firm instructions about size and model from UK bootfitter. Returned empty handed. You may be okay if you have really large feet, as the racks are full of really big boots. Additionally, all the shops seemed to lack measurement and bootfitting skills. I would suggest getting measured before you go, and be well informed as to what you need to be choosing. Prices, I would say, are higher than the UK ski shop chains. For example Atomic B100 Boot around £240 in UK, and seen at CHF 699, around £290, in several shops.

Thanks Bandit; that's very helpful.
I won't get my hopes up too much then, and will initially try sourcing/fitting in the UK...I'm still tempted to take a days holiday & have a ski while I'm there though!
Thanks again.
