Hi, I am an intermediate skiier - probably wont get any better now! For those in the know, how difficult is it to ski from the top of the Shilthorn? Its shown as a black run but the you tube footage I've seen makes it look pretty straightforward. Would also be grateful for any good value for money places to stay in close proximity to the said mountain.

Thanks all

The Schilthorn is the one above Murren with the revolving restaurant of James Bond fame isn't it? When do you intend to ski it? It's on my 'things to do while in Wengen list' first week in February. I'll be able to give my 2p when I get back. If you ski the area before then I would be interested to hear your opinions and experiences. Have a good one. :D

The Schilthorn is moderately steep for a black run and quite narrow at the top before widening and flattening out towards the top of the Berg lift. You can then choose to continue your descent on blues or blacks. Here's a tip: wait until the contents of the cable car to Piz Gloria (the revolving restaurant) have cleared the run - you will then have it all to yourself. I loved it - just the right mixture of challenge and pleasure! Murren, by the way, is beautiful but you'll be doing well to find 'good value' places to stay. Accommodation is good quality, generally, but you have to pay a premium.

Cheaper accomodation in lauterbrunnen - at the base of the valley ( you can then go to wengen or murren on the mountain railway ) there is a very good hostel which is basic but cheap - was on hotels.com or hostel world.com
