We are thinking of going to Passo Tonale as one of our friends is going to start work there. We are good intermediate skiers who like to get in the miles and ski varied terrain(piste, off piste, reds and blacks). However we are worried that Passo Tonale might be a bit small for a whole week and are wondering if it would be easy to get to Madonna di Campiglio easily if we don't have a car. Any info would be greatly appreciated
cheers

Hi Bill.
I assume that you actually want to get to the Madonna di Campiglio ski area. There is a bus from Passo Tonale to Marilleva, where you can get a lift up into the ski area.

Hope that helps.

I think it takes about an hour to get there, though, on the bus.
The local tourist board told me that for us to get there, from Folgarida, we'd have to get a bus to where the main bus goes from, in order to get to Passo Tonale. And coming back we'd miss the connection because the local bus back to Folgarida would have gone by the time the main bus had got back.

Hi - we skied Passo Tonale last January and it definitely won't keep your level of ability happy for a week. It is very much a case of up / down to next lift, very little challenge as you move along parallel to small village. So make sure you have transport arranged to another area. On the plus side - the après ski rocks at the bar which is actually sitting on the foot of the piste, midway along. We had such fun - all ages mixed and danced on the tables! Enjoy!

Yes skied last year there are some good slopes we took all abilities .. Not all just go back to village we got out and about .. And on the last day skied an amazing long black run but have to say need good weather for that as you really do need to see what your doing .. Most tour companies run trips to Madona .. Recommended as they ski with you .. They know the area and put you in groups if ability .. Well ours did !! We skied none stop as no waiting for lesser abilities and there was 8 inch of fresh powder .. My god thought I was in heaven had a fab day .. And yes they call the bar on the slopes the ice bar .. Very good !! .. Hope you enjoy your trip we did .. And I'm a good skier with 20 yrs under my belt .. You just have to find some of the good slopes and the off piste areas ..
