Initial reports yesterday indicated that he struck his head on a rock in a fall. He was apparently wearing a helmet and was conscious when help arrived.
Initially airlifted to Moutiers and then transferred to Grenoble hospital latest reports say he is a coma following brain surgery and his condition is now described as Critical.

Doctors sound certain the impact would have killed him if he hadn't been wearing a helmet.
