Serre Chevalier conditions

Anyone know if there are any snow cannons on the lower slopes at Serre Chevalier, and how many?

Just wondering if the pistes down to the téléphérique de Pontillas ("gennerally" based on previous years) will be groomed with manmade snow or not?

Going there from 23rd Dec till 30th Dec.

ALSO four of us are planning to go to Chamonix around end of Feb for a long weekend, does anyone know of any good cheap accom for four? and how much? Probably be for about 3 or 4 nights. Cham, Argentier, Le Tour ?????

All info will be welcome.

It is snowing in Serre Chevalier. There are snow canons right down to the villages. Can't tell you how many because I have never counted ( not being an anorak!) But relax, the skiing will be good. The snow is arriving all over the French resorts! Every year there is a big 'strop' about the late arrival of snow but the fact is that in most years it all works out well. I have been to Alpe d'Huez, not many miles from Ser. Chav. in mid Dec. for the last 5 years and the conditions have been splendid. This is despite great anxiety expressed by journalists and bloggers beforehand. Of course every so often there is no snow - even in 1992 as late as Feb. But that is the exception that proves the rule!

You have put my anxiety (brought on by the news on telly last night about no snow in Chamonix) at rest!
Just looked at the webcam this morning at Serre Che, and it doesnt look bad, at altitude, its just a shame that the webcam doesnt show the lower slopes.

I read you know well Alpe d'Huez. We plan to drive 700Km to be there the 23th Dec, but I'm a bit unsure because the snow shortage.
