Engelberg (2 hrs) has slopes open on the glacier that are gentle.
Their website is a bit slow at the moment, so maybe ring their Tourist Office and ask for help..

Any tips on good places to take a beginner at the moment? Prefer near to Zurich.

Hi Jenkins....welcome to the forum!
I think we need to know a bit more info......do you actually mean where to ski at this time of year with beginners (if so Tony is pretty much spot on!) but if you're asking which resorts are better set up for beginners/have good beginner terrain then that's a different question!
I learnt many moons ago in Chamonix but to be honest there are probably better areas to take an absolute newbie. Have not skied in Switzerland so close to Zurich is not my strong point.....I would tend to suggest Les Arcs in France or maybe Courmayer in Italy as contenders.

Wenge, Murren or Grindelwald - if/when they are open for skiing?
The key question, Jenkins, as Hudman said - is when exactly?

Flumserberg ?
Some friends learned there a couple of years ago in early December while I racked up some miles and it was only about an hour from Zurich. Busy on the weekend if conditions are good as it's so handy for Zurich but fairly dead in the week so lots of wide empty pistes to progress from the nursery slope to.
Website says open from end Nov.
Locals were very friendly to.

They're arriving tomorrow so I was looking for glacier options or anything that's open with a few blues.
