Need some input from you people out there we want to go for a 4/5 night ski break flying from Stansted somewhere in europe but don't want a long transfer leaving the UK at 6am and getting on the piste by 11am and want pretty snow sure too in January any recommendations !

Stansted to Geneva or maybe Innsbruck to give you plenty of choice.

If you've not found them, our airport pages will tell you which ski resorts are nearest to Geneva, Innsbruck and (as of this week) almost 100 other ski airports in Europe! :D

Book with an independent chalet who can do the transfer (most have their own minibuses now, or know a man who can!), which will save you loads of time (i.e. more ski time).

If you're thinking about anything other than New Year then leave the booking until the snow starts to arrive. January was epic last year but some of the traditionally "snow sure" resorts had so much snow at times they were cut-off (or closed due to avalanche risk being through the roof), whilst lower resorts enjoyed powder everywhere... high is not always best.

Also consider London City if that's easy for you to get to; mid-week flights can be very well-priced and check-in times and queues generally much shorter than the bigger airports.

If you are flying into Geneva, Chamonix will probably be the closest resort, so leaving London at 6am you have a realistic chance hitting slopes at 11-11.30. Les Contamines, Flaine will be at similar distance. You might need to stay in the hotel/BB though as most apartments and chalets can be only rented on a weekly basis, though of course you can always rent (and pay) for the whole week and leave earlier or arrive later.

As VSB says no brainer. 1hr-1.5hr to Geneva and 1hr transfer with one of the many reliable and cheap companies available. Afternoon skiing easily done. Early transfer and flight back and can still beat your co workers into office.

Few other choices but nowhere will be more convenient with same level of ski terrain available.

Hope to see you there.

Have to agree with VSB and Ranchero, it's a fast road from Geneva, and the town is well geared up for short stays and long weekend guests.

If you can easily fly to Innsbruck, catch the 15 min bus into the town. The Gondala goes from the town direct up to Nordkette. Steep! Good places to stay in Innsbruck, and a beautiful old town, steeped in Tirol history.

Yes, Geneva. But must argue with VSB who is way off his/her patch - there are plenty of resorts much closer than Chamonix,
