Hi all...

I know it's a mile off yet, but I thought it would be a good idea to get next years trip planning underway....

We haven't done Catered as yet, but maybe next year it'll be time....what sort of prices are we looking at for a package including flights? We always go for the cheapest weeks in January, and usually manage a good ski-in ski-out self catered all in for about £800 each including flights, car hire, ski hire, lift pass and food and drink for a week in the 3V....can we beat that going Catered?

Assuming the lift pass costs £200 and the ski hire £100, then you mean you would be looking for a catered chalet package holiday for £500?

I should think this would be possible, myself. In fact, I just had a look on the Inghams website and they're offering the 3 star Catered Chalet Sonrier in Courchevel for £479 p.p. for the 5th January 2013. They say it is 200m from the piste, and I selected London flights which go from Stansted to Geneva. It seems to be an extra £29 to go to Chambery.

I don't know what this chalet is like, but it shows it is possible.

We go self-catering as well, to the 3 Valleys and it generally costs us about £1000 p.p. because we've been going either at New Year or Feb half-term when it's expensive. This price includes the direct Eurostar, transfers, accommodation, ski hire, lift passes and ski lessons, but not food.

But I reckon we save a lot on lunches because we get ski-in ski-out accommodation so we can go back for lunch and tea. It's very easy to spend £20 per head on lunches and drinks in a mountain restaurant in the 3 Valleys, which for 7 days works out at £140 p.p. And we don't spend anything like this much shopping for food.

Package Chalet holidays can be very good value if you have kids because some of the TO's do special offers on things for the kids.

According to Mayan prophecy. 2011/12 will be the last ski season. Therefore I would have likely made my last ever turns :-o

However, I doubt the validity of their prophecy. Such a significant event (my last ever turns) would surely be a key element of the warnings passed down through the ages. I'm sure there is no mention of skiing in the these accounts.

Therefore, I plan some epic lines!

I shouldn't say but we went to superdevoluy for £1500 for the four of us self catering in half term. That didn't include the travel though but apparently cheap flights to Gap are readily available and that is only an hour away.

We budget for £1000pp for a catered chalet holiday, including all drinks and food, lift passes, ski carriage, flights and supps. Never been a problem so far. But we go out of peak weeks, early Jan and early March normally, and expect to pay between £500 and £650pp for the basic holiday, £200 lift pass, and another £200 each spending money for lunch and beers.

well having just got back from Brides I can report that it cost me £500 self catering apartment and lift pass and ski carriage. I ate out every evening but took my lunch with me but had the odd coffee on the slopes spent about €200 on that so all in all about £670 for the week...
