Top choice. It's a favourite of ours and your timing is good - snow should be good unless you're very unlucky but best of all is that it won't be crowded (at all) and you should have plenty of choice for accommodation. Apres is civilised and locals friendly. There is good skiing for all levels - how experienced is your party?

The Ski Bus links a number of areas and all are worth a ski. Good skiers will love the off-piste at La Balme but, with 10 days to fill, must also make the trip up to Le Grand Bornand - the smaller area of Le Chinaillon has great off-piste too and one of the steepest Black runs in France (Noir de le lachat).

Both areas have long Blues and Reds for the Intermediates to roam on, and early skiers will appreciate un-crowded pistes. One of our regulars, Gravite (highly recommended), will be operating a self-catered chalet (I think) so would be worth a call. 8)

Thanks in advance!
By the way...GREAT forum!

I believe they will have two for 2006/7 - one self-catered and one fully-catered. I know they're just in the process of updating their websites but start at www.gravite.co.uk and www.snowchalet.com. I'm sure either Dave or Sam will drop in here shortly to bring you up-to-date! 8)

Hi Jo

Just found your posting.

Powderhound is right the snow is good at this time of the year. the last two years we have had huge dumps around the 2oth, so it's been fab skiing. Also as suggested the slopes are nice and empty as the Frenchies wait until the Feb half term hols to do their skiing. You just get a few extra for the weekends, but nothing overwhelming and it makes for a good weekend crowd in the resort bars.

We have space from the 20th onwards in our catered chalet http://www.gravite.co.uk/catered.php for the 3 of you for as many days as you want. We have a party of 6 guys in on the 25th, and then another group in on the 29th. Drop me an email (via the website) and I'm sure we can work out a good post whistler price.

Cheers Dave

P.s Angelwingz la Clusaz is a fab place to learn and we offer some good beginner packages too!http://www.gravite.co.uk/hireprices.php#learner

Hi Sally

La Clusaz has loads of different accomodation options, so it really depends what you are looking.

There are quite a few hotels in the town centre , the best ones are the Hotel Beauregard, and Alpen Roc, although there are some smaller family run hotels. Take a look at the tourist office website for details on these http://www.laclusaz.com/index.jsp?c=10506

Alternatively there are loads of self catered flats in the town centre, although they tend to be quite small for what you pay for. just be carefull if you do go down this route as some of the cheaper ones are described as being in La Clusaz but are over in the Medassier section of La Clusaz which is some 6k away.

There are a number of small self catered chalets to rent but these tend to be 5-10minutes outside of the town centre. Take a look at http://www.francechalet.co.uk for some english owned and run flats and chalets or http://www.gpilaclusaz.info for some french privately owned appartments - they tend to be cheaper or http://www.aravis-vacation.com/?lng=en which lists quite a few others in the area.

However, if you want to stay in an english run catered chalet - there are about 3 of us in La Clusaz itself. http://www.snowlife.co.uk are the closest to town, is a fantastic location, lovely accommodation and it is run by a lovely couple Simon and Lisa. However, their chalet is usually booked up a year in advance.

Then a bit further out of town (5 minutes up the La Clusaz valley) are http://www.chaletmaxim.com/ and us http://www.gravite.co.uk/
Both chalets sleep up to 14 and we both drive guests to and from the slopes in the morning and do an end of day pick up. We still have availability for 7 nights on the 6th-13th Jan and 5 days on the 20-25th Jan and I think Steve and Jannelle who run chalet maxim have the 3rd of Jan free for 4 nights or a few rooms left on the 7th for 7 nights.

So it really depends on what you want.

If you need any more info don't hesitate to drop me an email.

Cheers Dave
