Le Grand Bornand - Ski Resort in Aravis, French Alps - 90km of Piste (1000m to 2100m)

Large, traditional French village 6km from La Clusaz with which it shares the Aravis Lift Pass. Apres ski is wide ranging with a discothèque and a large selection of eateries. The higher part of the resort is known as Chinaillon, located at 1300m and where most of the skiing starts. It is a station in its own right with loads of apartments and a few hotels. There are many shops and restaurants, bars and a discoteque. A bus links with the village of Le Grand Bornand. You can only ski down to Grand Bornand itself in very good snow conditions.

Le Grand Bornand

The French ski resort of Le Grand Bornand is part of the Aravis ski area with access to 158 individual pistes. In addition to the skiing in Le Grand Bornand itself (90km of pisted ski runs), the appropriate ski Lift Pass will allow you to ski or snowboard in the other Aravis ski resorts of La Clusaz, Manigod and Saint Jean de Sixt.

With skiing above 2000 metres, snow cover is generally reliable.

Snowmaking :- Le Grand Bornand is able to augment natural snow, on 18km of ski runs, with 100 Snow Cannons.

Ski Lift Capacity :- The 39 Ski Lifts of Le Grand Bornand are able to uplift 36,400 skiers / snowboarders per hour.

There are six Airports within two hours drive, so ski weekends, snowboard breaks and short ski holidays to Le Grand Bornand are perfectly feasible. Geneva Airport is just one hours drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.

Skiing in Le Grand Bornand

The skiing is spread over 4 linked sectors: La Joyère, Le Chinaillon-Lachat, Le Maroly and La Duche-Les Annes

which can all be accessed from the Village or from Chinaillon. La Joyère ski area is just a short gondola ride from the village and its gentle south-facing slopes are the perfect place to start. Chinaillon's north and north-westerly facing slopes are of varying grades and suitable for skiers of all abilities while further along the valley the Maroly area is vast and undulating with long blue and red runs - ideal for family skiing. Le Lachat, the high point of the ski resort at 2100m has exposed north and south-west facing slopes. Reserved for good to better skiers it has two reds and a black run.
