Hi, We have never skiied Austria before and are looking at Kitzbuhel for an early Feb holiday, has anybody been or able to offer any advice on the area. I am comfortable on Red runs and my wife more at home on a blue run. Any help appreciated thanks guys.

Hi Geo, can't really help with the question, as I too am going to Kitzbuhel early in Feb, and it is also my first visit to Austria.

I am massively looking forward to it, as there are so many positive comments on this forum about Austria in general, and I cannot think of any reason why we have never actually been there in the past.

Personally I will just go with the flow and try to explore the area fully during the time I have there and will enjoy every minute of it :)

I'm going on the 4th Feb, when are you thinking of going? Don't forget the week after that is the UK half term, so likely to be dearer and busier.

Hi, probably the same date just need to confirm hol's with work. My only concern is it doesnt seem the highest of resorts and just wondered how "snow sure" it is.

Hi Geo. The last four seasons in Kitz have recorded snow levels for February, Lower/Upper slopes, 2007~8 first as:

8cm / 106cm

64cm / 170cm

51cm / 121cm

50cm / 86cm

That will be the week after the Hahnenkamm, you will have just missed seeing the great racers. Remember that we tend to think of half term in UK terms. The whole of Europe will have some holidays around that time. That is, apart from the well known skiing nation ~ Scotland!

Hi Dave, we did toy with the idea of going out a week earlier, but some people had work issues and as we want to do the streif ourselves, we decided the week after would be more suitable for the bulk of the group.

Interestingly, last year I was on the Lauberhorn the week after the mens downhill, perhaps we are going to start a trend with our group holidays

I went there three years ago with my school trip-Im a teacher and we had a fantastic week! Admittedly it was the best snow they had seen in 12yrs apparently but still!
Two distinct hills-one excellent for beginners and another that stretches much further and higher
we also went the week after the mens downhill which was interesting-course was still iced from the race but had 3feet of powder ontop!
One of the most romantic reports I've ever been in-just a shame i was with 35school kids! Do the horse ride thru the centre and the toboggan run at night too!
Dunno about night life because as stated i was with kids but the beers we did buy were cheap!
You'll love it, i would love to go back!

We went to Kitzbühel many years ago and loved it.
I read a really good article about it over the weekend in either the Sunday Times or Sunday Telegraph or maybe even the Finnacial Times( can't remember which) - very positive write-up saying how much investment has gone into the resort.
