I am looking to book a trip to Galtur in February. Never been before. Any comments or tips from people who have been there recently would be appreciated. (expect to go to Ischgl most days. Are the buses usually busy?)

Thanks

Great skiing in The Silvretta arena. I stayed in iscghl 3 years ago so didn't use the bus for the lifts. If you have any party people in your group Ischgl will be perfect for them with loads of bars and clubs, but some places you have to look for as they don't jump out at you. Also some clubs are actually lap dancing bars so be on guard as you might end up paying more than you expected. Not many brits in the resort when we went but more tour operators are featuring it in there brochures. The only run that bring you down to the centre of the village opposite the hotel elizabeth
is carnage from3pm onwards as it is a red run but
you get all ability skiers giving it a go and it's M25 in the rush hour skiing. great snow conditions
with huge amount of runs well above 2300m. the top runs go from 2800m. Get to the lift early in the morning or you could be queing for 20-30 mins.

Unfortunately thats what I've been hearing more of from people I know who have tried it. They all say theres some good skiing up there, but its way too busy on the slopes and carnage was the same word they used for getting off the mountain.
The word "raunchy" was also used to describe the nightlife. The place is full of german and dutch men, apparently.
Galtur is a way out, linked by bus, so I guess it would involve getting an early morning bus into Ischgl, and then either getting away from the sauciness after skiing, or hitting the bars and getting a taxi back. Personally I think I'd avoid Galtur just for the hassle factor.

You can get a gondola back down to the village as many do,but only ski back down if your a confident red run skier. As for the bus to Galtur,if you do get into the spirit of the apres ski they finish running fairly early and cabs are expensive.I would definately stick to Ischgl although it is a little cheaper to stay Galtur.

Thanks guys. I had heard of the Ischgl reputation for partying which to be honest was my the reason for considering Galtur -
As apparently it's a lot quieter and a bit cheaper than Ischgl.

I quite happy to ski hard during the day, have a beer after, then good dinner maybe few more beers, then off to bed around 10:30 get ready for the next day.

Interesting what you say about the ski back--I'm generally confident skier on reds but the Gondola maybe the best option.

If you like to ski hard and enjoy a few beers afterwards definaetly visit the area. You will have
no worries on snow and the amount of runs. You can even ski into switzerland, then at the bottom of the run get a bus for 5 mins to the lift which take you back to the heart of Ischgls run.
Have a good time, you won't regret it.

I stayed in Ischgl last march. Ski area is fantastic and big - more than enough to keep the mileage people happy. 2 main runs down to the village 1 at either end 1 of these is more gentle and runs to the main bar street the other is to the quieter end of the town and a bit of a challenge. When we were there the conditions were warm and there was some very wet snow and even puddles at the bottom of the runs late in the afternoon. there are several options for this 1) ski with the pack and keep yuour eyes open for the out of control skiiers 2)take gonodla down from midstation 3) stay at idalp are about half way up and have a late beer to let the pack go and then folow down about 20mins later which is much quieter or 4) get down a little earlier and have a beer outside the elizebeth hotel and watch the so called skiiers encounter the moguls on the last part of the run. you can see about 200mts of the run and it is hilarious to watch all ranges of skills. options 3 and 4 were my preference.
the village itself is not a usual brit place so plenty of other nations there. there is also a pasch?? nightclub which i was told was 80 euro to get in - not sure if that was true but never felt the slighest bit of curiosity to find out although i did see the clubs pink limo running around the roads early evening.
If your going there to ski you will have a great time on the vast and varied ski area in ischgl.

That is correct, same price as the one in Ibiza to get in to. Shocking that people actually would.
